Wojciech Fangor – “N 12”
N 12 was created in 1964 in Montrouge. It is an oil painting on canvas measuring 100 × 100 cm. FANGOR Foundation classifies the work as a painting featuring a circle motif, belonging to the category of Positive Illusory Space. It is documented in the Catalogue Raisonné under number P.393.
The composition of N 12 reflects Fangor’s characteristic interest in the relationship between colour, form and perception. The circles and their relationships create a composition that affects the way the surface of the painting is perceived, suggesting a sense of space extending beyond the physical plane of the canvas.
N 12 was exhibited at Städtisches Museum Leverkusen – Schloss Morsbroich in Leverkusen in 1964, followed by an exhibition at Galerie Springer in Berlin in 1965. The work was also included in the Fangor exhibition catalogue published by Galerie Springer in Berlin in 1965.
